Our Adoption Process
Thank you for your interest in adopting a rescue animal from us!
Once you complete a formal application on our website, a CLAWS volunteer will reach out to you for a phone interview. As part of the application process, please note that either pictures/videos of your home must be provided, and/or an in-person home visit from a CLAWS representative. If we feel you may be a good fit for the animal you applied for, we will then set up an in-person meeting with the animal you've chosen. During or after the meeting, all parties will decide whether to follow through with an adoption.
No animals go home with an applicant the same day as a meeting. Once all parties agree on adoption, a day and time are set for you to pick up your new rescue animal. A CLAWS representative will walk you through preparing to take your new pet home. Cat/kitten adoptions finalize the day you pick up your cat/kitten. Adopters of a dog/puppy are given a 2-week trial period before a final adoption contract is signed.
All adoption contracts go through an online process through ShelterLuv. Payment and a signed contract are done through this software. Upon final adoption, you will receive a signed copy of your contract, a paid receipt, any/all veterinary records about your new pet, and helpful tips and recommendations about caring for your new pet.
PLEASE NOTE: We only adopt within 60 miles of Closter, New Jersey.
